Brazil's state-owned oil and gas producer is Latin America's biggest and most profitable company on the Global 500. Profits jumped 24% as Petrobas set a production record last year, pumping 1.8 million barrels of crude oil a day. The Brazilian government's decision in 2005 to allow domestic gasoline prices to rise 10% also boosted results.
