16. Sanmina-SCI
Fortune 500 rank: 255
2007 loss: $1.13 billion

Ongoing restructuring continued to hurt the bottom line for Sanmina-SCI, which manufactures electronics parts for big brand-name tech companies HP, IBM, and Lenovo in low-cost locales like Mexico, China, and Hungary.

Citing a slowdown in orders from PC makers, Sanmina-SCI has been trying to get out of that market and focus more on medical equipment and other electronics. In February, the company sold its PC manufacturing division to Lenovo and Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision. Sanmina-SCI also stopped providing original designs to customers in 2007 and started focusing on joint-design efforts, which led to a drop in revenues.
