The 25th anniversary version of Nike's bestselling running shoe represents the company's latest bet on the future of sneaker technology. The new $87 Pegasus follows company guidelines for using environmentally-friendly materials and reducing waste in the production process. These standards, announced in 2005, have been used to create products such as the Considered Boot, a lifestyle shoe featuring hemp laces, and the less granola-looking Air Zoom Affinity, a woman's running shoe that uses minimal material. While developing the first green version of the Air Jordan, released earlier this year, the company invented a sewing machine that uses less chemical glue.
