Mega-grocer Kroger got a boost from shoppers looking for value. Sales for fiscal-year 2008 reached $76.0 billion, an 8.2% jump from 2007. The chain operator, which also runs jewelry and convenience stores, was bolstered by sales of its private label foods to others and at its nearly 2,500 supermarkets.
