Under CEO Alan Mulally, Ford Motor is reworking some of its traditional models and adding new ones with an international flair.

The midsize Fusion is already a hit: Ford sold 18,321 during the month of April. The hybrid version costs $3,200 more and gets nearly 50% better fuel economy: 41 mpg city/36 mpg highway.

Fusion is a worthy competitor to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Raved Motor Trend about the new hybrid: "Hear that, Capitol Hill? Detroit is building the trendsetting, high-mileage, high-quality cars ... you claim they can't build."
