The ubiquitous specialty coffee maker began as a cafe in Waitsfield, Vermont, but now offers over 100 varieties of organic, Fair Trade Certified coffees. In 2006, it bought Keurig, the popular brewing company behind the single-cup serving machines sold in stores. More recently, sales nearly doubled year-over-year to almost $2.7 billion.

In May 2012, founder and chairman Robert Stiller was removed from his position for selling stock in violation of company policy. Stiller and GMCR lead director William Davis were demoted. Both executives will remain on the board but will not receive any payment or serve on committees.
