Why it's admired
The networking equipment supplier jumps an impressive 11 slots this year, as it continues to stage a strong and speedy recovery from weak sales it suffered during the downturn. Flush with more than $35 billion in cash, the company has been aggressively pursuing its strategy of growth by acquisition. In March it bought Pure Digital, the creator of the Flip Video brand, for $590 million, and last October it paid $2.9 billion for Starent Networks, a maker of wireless products for large telecoms, hoping to capitalize on consumers' growing quest for smartphones and mobile data. --C.T.
