Swann, 42, continued her turnaround at the British book and magazine retailer, splitting off newspaper distribution. She also plans to open post offices in 70 stores and outlets in highway service stations. Sales continue to slide as she reduces the number and assortment of items in stores. Still, pretax earnings jumped 31%, to $100 million in fiscal 2006 on sales of $2.6 billion.
