The Xbox gaming console was first out in 2001, but it wasn't until summer 2008 that its descendant, the Xbox 360, actually turned a profit. The company spent billions to get to this point. It first partnered with Sega in 1998 to develop a platform for the Dreamcast, which ultimately flamed out. And when the Xbox first rolled out it failed to impress most Sony and Nintendo fans. Since its 2005 debut, there have been 10.3 million Xbox 360 consoles sold in the U.S according to NPD group. A deal with Rockstar Games to give Xbox 360 users exclusive content tied to Grand Theft Auto IV also contributes to a boost in sales.
