In an attempt to make computing easier for novice users, Microsoft introduces us to Bob, a cartoon interface featuring talking dogs and smiley faces that offers step-by-step instructions for everything. Consumers deem Bob too cutesy and condescending (and with a price tag of $100, too expensive), and Microsoft abandons it within a year.
