Profits dropped nearly 30% in 2009 as the recession -- and excise taxes -- hurt demand for tobacco. But the stock is up 30% in the past 12 months, strongly outperforming the broader market, in part because Ivey is expanding beyond cigarettes: She's led Reynolds' push into smokeless tobacco with Camel SNUS, and in December the company acquired a maker of nicotine replacement products.
