One consulting group underestimated demand for the 914 because the consultants interviewed mail room managers and executives, who thought there would be limited uses for an automated copier. They didn't solicit the opinions of secretaries, who became the main users of the machines. Xerox went on to sell more than 200,000 914 copiers.
